Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock won the final two matches of the afternoon session on Saturday at the International Darts Open in Riesa.
Rock was too strong in a 6-4 win against Florian Hempel. In terms of scoring, the Northern Irishman was much better than Hempel, including five 180 scores, but Rock did not have his sights set on the doubles (6/23).
Rock missed two chances to lead 3-1, after which Hempel made it 2-2 with a 48 finish. Rock then missed three chances to make it 3-2 and also three chances to make it 3-3. This gave Hempel a 4-2 lead, but then Rock threw two 15-darters to equalize. With a 15-darter and a 13-darter, Rock then went up-and-over for a 6-4 win.
Aspinall proved too good for Mario Vandenbogaerde. The Asp took the first two legs and then ran out to a 5-1 lead. Vandenbogaerde hit 84 for 5-2, but then Aspinall decided the match with a 13-darter.
