Some will note that Michael Smith added to a depleted field in Hildesheim by withdrawing from the latest Players Championship double header before the draw yesterday.
Smith was replaced by Owen Bates in the field and he revealed on social media that this is due to illness with ‘Bully Boy’ not being 100% since the UK Open. This alongside a wrist injury, it has not been the best few months since World Championship glory.
“People asking me why I’m not in Germany. I’ve been really poorly since Saturday at Minehead and just can’t seem to shake it off. But no excuses just got to keep battling,” he said.
