Mensur Suljovic made it to the Last 32 at the
UK Open on Friday evening after a quality tie with Kim Huybrechts.
'The Gentle' took it in a deciding leg as he looks to rekindle his form after facing health issues in 2021 which saw him miss tournaments and saw a slide in the ranking.
Asked about this by DAZN, Suljovic pointed towards his first vaccination against COVID-19: "Since taking my first vaccination, I have not been feeling well." As a result, Suljovic was only able to spend half of his usual practice hours at the board.
Although these problems are not over yet, the former Champions League winner wants to quickly get back into the top-16 of the world rankings.
"I know it's unrealistic, but I'm not giving up," Suljovic says of his goal. "I go from doctor to doctor, but no one can tell me what's wrong and what to do."
The Austrian trains for six hours when he's feeling well and just five minutes on other days. "I just want to practice. I have no problem with where, when and how long it takes. I was in great shape. And now suddenly - it hurts so much!" Suljovic sums up the story.
