Chris Dobey made a good start to his title defense at the
Masters. 'Hollywood' defeated Andrew Gilding 6-3 in the opening round.
“It’s great to be back, and it’s always nice to get off to a winning start,” Dobey reflected post-match. “Andrew has his own style and you can’t knock him for that, but I struggled to find my own rhythm early on."
Despite a decebt showing on his
Premier League Darts debut in 2023, Dobey didn’t recieve an invitation this year. "If I'd have won that game against Rob Cross I'd have been in," Dobey says, referencing the World Darts Championship quarterfinal in which he led 4-0 before losing out 5-4. "I still thought there was a little chance but they left out Luke Humphries last year and look what he's done."
“Now I’m in the top 16 I want to push on," Dobey adds. "I want to push towards the top ten and top eight and win another couple of titles, and it would be great to start here this weekend.”
In the second round, Dobey faces off against Michael van Gerwen on Saturday night.
