"Tournament was really inconvenient" - Raymond van Barneveld blames post-wedding tiredness for early World Grand Prix exit

For Raymond van Barneveld, the World Grand Prix turned into a hefty setback. However, the 56-year-old Dutchman had a valid excuse for his lesser performance.

Indeed, these were busy weeks for Van Barneveld, who had to prepare for his wedding and finally got married last week in Larnaca, Cyprus, to England's Julia Evans. "The days before the World Series of Darts Finals I was in Cyprus preparing for the wedding," Van Barneveld told Viaplay. "That I ended up losing to Peter Wright in the quarterfinals was partly because I was too tired."

The following week, "Barney" traveled again to Cyprus for the wedding itself. "It was a crazy day with family and friends, I'm never going to forget that," he said.

The honeymoon is for later, however, as Van Barneveld had to return home almost immediately to prepare for the World Grand Prix. "That tournament was really inconvenient, I was so tired that I didn't do anything against Martin Schindler. Now I'm taking a week of rest and then I want to be ready for the busy period ahead in the coming months."
