Vladyslav Omelchenko made history as the first Ukrainian player to ever play at the PDC
World Darts Championship amid the back drop of the ongoing war between Russia and his homeland.
Hitting a 180 and 143 checkout, he acquitted himself well despite defeat to Luke Woodhouse and blocked out the support despite appreciating it.
"It was really hard to adapt in the beginning because it's the first time I'm playing internationally with such a huge crowd," said Omelchenko post match as per translation.
"It's super hard to gather my thoughts. I don't notice the audience in this moment and I'm still surprised about the 143 and the 180. I was only thinking about the game and getting the best result so didn't notice the support from the audience but I was very pleased by it."
He believes that this can help but only after the war when free reign is allowed again.
"This is definitely going to give a boost to darts in Ukraine, darts was quite popular in Ukraine before the war but because of that a lot of people leave and there was barely any games.
"In the future after the war, it's going to give a big boost and I hope I am even more popular than before that."
