Van der Voort fears mental impact on Van Duijvenbode: "Those missed match darts are going to creep into his head"

Dirk van Duijvenbode missed another chance to win his first TV tournament last weekend. In the final of the European Darts Matchplay he missed no less than four matchdarts.

Van Duijvenbode also missed opportunities in the final of the European Darts Open earlier this year. "I think it does go in his head a bit," said compatriot and fellow professional darts player Vincent van der Voort to 433 Darts. "He had the chances and gives it away again, which is particularly sour. I think nervousness played a big role anyway."

Van der Voort is on the Toto Dart Kings team with Van Duijvenbode. "But it's not up to me to give him good advice, in fact he knows full well that he's let it slip. I am sure he will be well sick of this."

"The question is whether he will get that nervousness under control in the upcoming tournaments. He certainly has the qualities to win a big tournament, but he will still have to work on that mental aspect."
