Vincent van der Voort was playing last weekend in the Kings of Darts exhibition tournaments. The Dutchman was also able to play with his new darts there for the first time.
It was a different van der Voort who was playing on the Kings of Darts stage though. “After the World Championship I had problems with my back and knees. That is why I decided to work on my health and I have now lost eight kilos. Fortunately, the problems seem to have been largely resolved, ”the former UK Open finalist told Sportnieuws.
Just like his close friend Michael Van Gerwen, Van der Voort has also switched to Winmau and he is looking forward to the benefits of the move. “Of course I won't hide that it's a good deal financially. But that Winmau is such a big name in darts sport also plays a major role in that choice. It will be pretty exciting how things will go with the new arrows in the coming months. ” ‘The Dutch Destroyer' was not selected by the PDC as one of the 'Challengers' in the Premier League despite his popularity but he believes there is a main reason behind that.
“To be honest, I had not counted on that either. I am someone who invariably gives his opinion and the PDC is often unable to handle it. I regularly receive letters and emails telling me to keep my cool. However, I am who I am and I continue to give my opinion honestly and well-founded, even though that is sometimes a bad thing for the PDC. ”
