Michael van Gerwen failed to win in the final of Night Seven of the Premier League in Ahoy on Thursday night. Mighty Mike went down 6-5 against Joe Cullen in the final.
Despite this defeat, Van Gerwen did take three points and remains in the lead of the Premier League, with two points more than closest challenger Peter Wright. "That's what it's all about in the end. Of course I want to win today, but there are still so many weeks to go. Then it has to happen again next week", said Van Gerwen to Viaplay.
Still, Van Gerwen felt he could have won the final. "You know what it is: in the end he just throws a couple of great finishes and he hurts me with them. I think I'll arm myself well and keep throwing well, but then I have to keep going."
Not rewarding myself
"He throws a fantastic last leg, when I knew he was there for the taking. And that's just a shame. I was the better player too. It's just a shame I didn't reward myself and that hurts me," concluded the 32-year-old Dutchman, who declined to speak to any media outside Viaplay afterwards.
