Van Gerwen dumped out by Krcmar as Price, Cross, Heta, Rock and Humphries impress early at Players Championship 11

The first round has begun at Players Championship 11 with Rob Cross, Josh Rock, Damon Heta, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price all through and impressing early in Leicester.

But Michael van Gerwen who puzzlingly decided to play this weekend despite a shoulder injury and missing an exhibition in the same venue last night lost out to Boris Krcmar.

For fans of MVG though, there were good signs as he averaged 105 throughout defeat to the Croatian ace.

Cross averaged 105 in seeing off Owen Roelofs, Heta hit 103 in seeing off Richard Veenstra. While Rock eased past Devon Petersen averaging 102 even missing a nine-dart finish en route.

Price eased past Martin Lukeman averaging 103 in a 6-2 win but there were losses for Jonny Clayton, Ross Smith, and Ryan Searle.
