Van Gerwen eases past Humphries, set to face Cross in final of Players Championship Finals

Michael van Gerwen is on the verge of seventh heaven in the Players Championship Finals after seeing off Luke Humphries 11-5 and will face Rob Cross shortly after the World Youth final in Minehead.

Van Gerwen has the record for the most wins in this tournament and could extend that after only losing it last year to Peter Wright who isn't involved this weekend and he finished with a 101 average, five 180's and 47.6% on the outer ring.

To begin the tie, Van Gerwen was motoring like he was at the end as he hit a 120 checkout to go 3-0 up with a 107 average. Humphries came back to make it 3-2 though after MVG missed opportunities to make it 4-1.

Six perfect darts were there for Van Gerwen to go 5-3 up but as it looked like he was going into the break 7-3 up, he missed more on the outer ring and Humphries pounced for 6-4.

But on return, this proved an interval at the wrong time as Van Gerwen motored ahead again for 9-5 and made it three straight legs at 10-5 as 'Cool Hand Luke' looked frustrated but resigned and that he was as MVG concluded an 11-5 win with ease.
