Mason Whitlock is a rising star to watch in the world of darts. The 21-year-old son of legendary player Simon Whitlock is currently making his mark on the Development Tour, honing his skills and gaining valuable experience. With his sights set on the future, he’s preparing to take the next big step in his career—an ambitious bid for a PDC Tour Card early next year. Could he follow in his father’s footsteps and become a force on the professional circuit?
Mason Whitlock realizes he has big shoes to fill, after all, his father was a World Championship finalist at both the Lakeside and the Alexandra Palace, plus also won the European Championship and the World Cup of Darts. "If I can achieve a third of what he's achieved in his career, I'd be happy with myself," Mason recently told TalkSport.
His father Simon lost his PDC Tour Card at the end of 2024. That doesn't mean the Aussie darting icon is slowing down though. "I mean not much has really changed. He goes away quite often to play," explains Mason Whitlock. "We'll also be going away more together, which is really interesting and really exciting."
Mason has set some clear goals for himself. "I want to win a Development Tour, win a MODUS and next year, I want to get my Tour Card. That's my goal," he announces defiantly.
And speaking of goals, Mason is already looking a little further ahead, too, following in his father's footsteps by making an appearance in the Premier League Darts. "Once I hone that consistency and start throwing those 90 / 95 plus averages every game, then I could see myself there in five years!"
Finally, Mason was asked if he is also going to grow a long beard and hair like his father. "Absolutely not," he says firmly with a laugh.
