James Wade caused a stir in October after saying in an
interview the standard of the current top 10 on the PDC Order of Merit isn't what is was a couple years ago.
The left-hander also revealed that some of the top 10 players were upset with his comments, because they didn't agree with his opinion. However
Michael van Gerwen, world number one since 2014, does agree with Wade.
Taylor, Van Barneveld, Anderson and Lewis in top form, that was a strong top-10. That's a bit different now, other players have stood up'', he responded to Wade's criticism in an interview with Dutch website Dartsnieuws.
''Glen Durrant, for example, although his form is not that good at the moment. Gerwyn (Price) did a fantastic job, so did Dimitri (van den Bergh). Although I think Dimitri is missing something. He is a fantastic darts player, but not attractive to watch.''
Durrant and Van den Bergh were two of the new major champions this year. Van den Bergh won the World Matchplay in July, while Durrant claimed the victory in the Premier League Darts.
Both tournaments were played behind closed doors due to the corona outbreak. Wade stated that we would have seen different winners when both tournaments were played with a live crowd. However, Van Gerwen does not want to go that far. "I don't know, although other players think differently. It's hard to say, at least it would have been a lot more difficult.''
