James Wade has admitted that he's not impressed with the standard of the current World's top 10 and that it is a 'long way off' what it has been before.
Wade also said that for him Gerwyn Price is the best player in the world and used the World Cup as an example of this.
"There's a lot of players that like to blow smoke up their own backsides but I don't think it's true. The standard isn't what it was, it's definitely a better standard throughout but the top 10/top 12, I think it's quite a long way off. As I said, Gerwyn Price is the best player in the world, apparently that stood out like a sore thumb."
"But you've only got to look at the averages in the games at the World Cup. It speaks for itself. I don't think it's as good as it was," said Wade to The Darts Show podcast.
He also discussed having the Winter Series, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals in the same time period: "It's going to be quite tough. It's something new, something different. It's a long time to be in the right frame of mind especially for the younger players who aren't as experienced and some of the older players who have got a lot of battle scars, you can find yourself in an awkward predicament," he added.
"I think players who have a tremendous amount of high belief or self confidence I think they're the most fragile ones because they can go down hill very quickly. Especially the new generation, they're really confident which is a great thing to see but they can be the ones that are damaged quite badly."
