Van Gerwen frustrated after UK Open semi-final exit: "Lately I often have players playing the match of their lives against me"

For Michael van Gerwen, he lost out in the semi-finals on Sunday evening at the UK open. The World Number Two encountered an impressive Luke Humphries.

Van Gerwen threw over a 106 average but Humphries produced a sublime display.

"He played one of the best matches of his career. Just about everything worked out for him and you don't really expect that because he hasn't been doing so well the last few months. Lately I often have players playing the match of their lives against me, on the other hand I have to make sure I become even more dominant and confident", Van Gerwen said to RTL 7.

So the Dutchman knows what he has to do. "I'm going to practice even harder in the coming weeks to become even better. From this tournament, I have no good feeling about it, I want to win and nothing else counts for me."
