Michael van Gerwen is successfully through his opener at the 2020/21
PDC World Darts Championship after hitting a 109 average against Ryan Murray to win 3-1 in sets.
Van Gerwen spoke afterwards and admitted that his confidence is getting higher but that he is not looking too far ahead.
"This is what I've probably missed this past year, games like this that keeps you going in the tournament and give you confidence. My confidence is good but you still have to do it game after game and you can't look too far ahead because there's a lot more to go," said Van Gerwen post match.
"I'm always on a mission. I know there's still a lot more to work for but I'm getting close to this."
"They don't have to fear me but I will bite really hard. If you play games like this and when you feel this confidence, I know there's more to get and more to go for and you have to work hard for it."
The Battle for the World Number One spot has been a big talking point and Mighty Mike has made his feelings known about the current Order of Merit.
"I always said to everyone before that the ranking system is not right. I think they should go for a points system because anyone who wins two World titles will be Number One regardless of what he wins for the rest of the year."
