Van Gerwen on mindset during Premier League: "I see every game as a final, that's how you need to approach it"

Michael van Gerwen will head into this year's Premier League aiming for a fifth title in a row in the weekly roadshow and with a point to prove of sorts when he takes on rival Peter Wright in the opening week who of course accounted for him in the World final.

Van Gerwen spoke ahead of proceedings beginning and said that he is ready to go again and that he wants to show everybody why he is still the best. He also spoke about his mindset in the event and how he treats it week after week.

"I'm really looking forward to it. Of course I've done really well over the years in the Premier League and I love to perform week after week on the big stages," said Van Gerwen to LiveDarts.

"It's going to be tough but you've got to make sure you do the right things at the right moments. Of course here or there you have a slip and you make a few mistakes but how you're going to deal with it and I think I've shown over the years what I'm capable of and I want to show it again."

"I see every game as a final, that's how you need to approach it because it's tough but I've been in this position before so I'm looking forward to it."

"The new darts are going well, I'm playing with my new Winmau gear. The Premier League in the first few weeks I want to get it done and make sure you do the right things. Of course I need to give myself a bit of time but after that back on track."
