Van Gerwen will not receive additional prize money for nine-dart finish

Michael van Gerwen hit a nine-dart finish earlier today at the Players Championship but he will not receive a bonus for hitting the perfect leg.

The previous rolling prize was £5,000; but this was stopped at the start of the 2019 mainly due to the prize money increasing.

This means in reality, they will recoup the bonus anyway if they get further in the tournament but it is interesting how since just before it was changed, there has not been one up until now with it being the longest time between them.

Despite that, there have been 45 non televised nine-darters on the other end of proceedings in a record breaking year for perfect legs.
