In a beautiful moment at the Dutch Darts Championship, following his second-round win over the 'German Giant' Gabriel Clemens, Michael van Gerwen celebrated on stage with his daughter.
In addition to his daughter Zoë, his wife Daphne was also in the audience during the Euro Tour tournament in the Netherlands, something that clearly meant a lot to van Gerwen.
The fact that his 5-year-old daughter was there caused mild emotions for the 34-year-old darts player. ''That means a lot to me. Then she learns why I'm gone, what I'm doing, what my life is. Do you understand? That is sometimes still difficult, "says van Gerwen in conversation with the AD.
The three-time world champion then came up with an example. "On the street I was asked ten or fifteen times by people for a photo, but then she comes to me because she thinks: 'Yes, this is my daddy, isn't it?' Sometimes she doesn't quite get it yet, but she has to learn that," said the current number three in the world.
