(VIDEO) Coaching with Wayne Mardle on counting: “ Don’t be intimidated by all the numbers”

Wayne Mardle used to be a successful darter himself, reaching the semifinals of the World Darts Championship no less than four times. Nowadays he is active as a commentator, analyst and also coaches.

Mardle has posted a new video on his youtube channel "Club 501. In it, he discusses the importance of good math. "As a newcomer to the sport, it can be intimidating trying to learn all the combinations, you don’t need all of them. Only some of them. All counters that are good and bad were all newbies once," says Mardle.

In addition, Mardle has another important tip. "The worlds best go for targets and miss. That’s the problem. We want to keep it easy. Every professional will tell you. It’s not really counting anymore it’s segments."

"If you get the basics right, it will be easier for you to throw with rhythm. You’ll lose rhythm if you can’t count. Don’t be intimidated by all the numbers. Don’t over complicate the game. Try to get certain patterns of finishing down. It’s all about not being intimidated by the numbers. Remember there’s no rush, if you’re unsure ask the referee.”
