James Wade sealed a comeback win over Gordon Mathers with a clutch 145 checkout in particular seeing 'The Machine' en route to a 6-5 victory at the
New Zealand Darts Masters.
Wade spoke afterwards and said it was a showcase of what he has done throughout his career of clutch finishing at the right moments.
"I was really nervous and the guy should have beat me so let's not beat around the bush, he was the better player but in patches I thought I was really good and I thought I'm going to tear him off and do my job but he should have won. But would he normally take out three ton plus finishes," said Wade to Online Darts.
"I don't think his confidence went but I think if I don't hit that I lose and that's what I built my dart career on. I don't believe that there's any dart player that can do what I do at certain times."
He believes he is close to his best after previously describing his World Series form as 'poor to average'.
"I'm so close to playing good darts, it's quite untrue. I haven't done for a long time probably like two or three months, we will see."
