James Wade claimed his third UK Open crown this past weekend defeating Luke Humphries in the final in a victory which has seen him become a ten time TV title winner.
Wade spoke afterwards and said that he feels it proves a point and that he is glad to prove the doubters wrong with victory in Milton Keynes.
"I'm so so happy. Early days when I won 2, 3, 4 titles, I didn't realise how lucky I was but now I savour the moment. I've won TV titles over three decades, that speaks volumes in my opinion," said Wade post match.
"I just become a lot more pig-headed, a lot more stubborn. The way they select things, it give me a kick up the backside and it proved a little point."
Also he admitted he paid no attention to Humphries win over Van Gerwen but that it was good for him in the end.
"He smashed him to pieces, he absolutely annihilated him and that was a good thing for me."
He continued on the theme of being doubted and he said he always had the belief that more would come.
"I always knew I'd win more. It's not belief, it's ability I think. If I didn't have my problems, I probably would have won a lot more. I'm not done yet, it's everyone else who thinks I'm done which is the best thing."
