The Belgian darts world was briefly upside down on Tuesday when details leaked out about the feud between
Kim Huybrechts on the one hand and Dimitri Van den Bergh and
Mike De Decker on the other. The latter is not entirely in agreement with Huybrechts' explanation.
About the feud with Decker, Huybrechts said the following: "My wife had put a post online, in which she indicated she was disappointed because Mike had said things behind my back on the Tour that had come to my ears. I hadn't addressed him on that at the time because I just wanted to avoid confrontation. (laughs cynically) After that, someone from Mike's family called my wife, with threats, also towards my children."
"As a father, you always want to protect your family, especially when you hear things like this. Then something snaps in me. I should never react like that, I was rightly reprimanded for that. But when it comes to my family I am quite sensitive."
De Decker responded to VTM to the allegations. "What Huybrechts says is largely true. But one thing is not correct. My mother did not threaten Dana (Huybrechts' wife) and the children. She did say that if he is not careful, there may be actions. But his family has not been threatened. For Kim to put a spin on his story that way is unfortunate. And not fair."
"This is not a fun situation by any means. You are already with not many Belgians in the darts world. And then we don't get along either. We see each other every week, but we avoid each other. No, this will never work out. We don't say anything to each other, and that's okay."
Still, De Decker doesn't want to dwell on it too long. "I honestly don't care much about it. I started the year very well and I'm at level. I draw on that."
