"We're conscious of the fact that the World Championship does create an imbalance in the Order of Merit" - PDC considers redistribution of prize money

The PDC World Darts Championship stands miles above the rest of the tournaments in terms of prize money, but CEO Matt Porter is considering a redistribution.

For example, the winner of the PDC World Darts Championship currently receives a cool £500,000. "We're conscious of the fact that the World Championship does create an imbalance in the Order of Merit. But at the same time your world champion should be, if the number one then number two or three,” he said to Online Darts.

"We'll review everything. Look at TV contracts, sponsorship contracts and the overall profile and popularity of the events and try and grade them. The key thing for us is to have it fair. What I don't like is when winning a last 16 match at one event gets you £5,000 but at another it's just £1,500."

More prize money for first-round losers, as snooker recently introduced, Porter does not want. "Our system of prize money is much better than snooker," he said.
