Peter Wright has had a difficult year as World champion with multiple TV title wins but not being able to play in front of the fans.
Wright spoke to the BBC before the World Championship and admitted the lockdown took his toll on his mental health massively and even recently at the Grand Slam when he was all set to walk away from the sport.
But that at the moment, the fans returning and the World Championship is 'spurring' him on.
"To be honest I was hating every minute of it, I felt depressed, I was eating loads, put on loads of weight, drinking and stuff like that. It was just doing my head in, I felt: "I don't want to be here anymore". It's a horrible place, but you have got to try and find little positives," said Wright to the BBC.
"It was just everything, the Grand Slam when I lost I just thought then I went I could just walk away from the game completely and just not bother getting up the next day, not being there but that's just me being selfish in my head. Other people matter."
"I have got stuff to look forward to now. I've got Christmas, I've got the World Championship, going on stage in front of the crowd. That is spurring me on."
