Latvian Darts Organisation asks for suspension of Russian and Belarusian dart players

In many sports, action has been taken after the Russian invasion into Ukraine of restricting involvement at the very least under the Russian flag and name.

International Darts Federations have not yet announced any measures in this regard but for the Latvian Darts Organisation, they want to change that.

They have called upon the WDF to show solidarity with Ukraine. They are advocating for the removal of the Russian Darts Federation from the WDF as well as all Russian players being banned from WDF tournaments.

They also want the same for Belarus due to the country actively supporting Russia's efforts. They have been banned already from playing in Latvia.

"The fact that democratic countries are strong and united in providing military, humanitarian and financial support to the people of Ukraine as well as introducing wide sanctions aganst Russia, supports sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine. It is a strong mechanism with which democratic countries are trying to stop Russian military aggression not only against Ukraine, but also against all of democratic society."

They also note that other organisations including the IOC are advocating this.

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has invited other international sport federations to ban athletes from Russia and Belarus from their events."

Should the WDF accede to the request of the Latvian darts association, this will have no consequences for Boris Koltsov, for example, who has a Tour Card with the PDC. The PDC does not fall under the WDF.
