Paul Lim has advanced another round at the 2024 WDF World Championships in Frimley Green. Following his 2-0 win over Moreno Blom, 'The Singapore Slinger' won 3-2 in sets over Kai Fan Leung in the second round.
Lim made his return to the
Lakeside stage earlier this week, where he made history in 1990 by throwing a nine-darter. Still, 'The Singapore Slinger' is the only player who managed this on this stage.
That the Singaporean can still throw a decent dart he proved by throwing an average of 90.26 against Blom. This time Lim reached an average of 85.50.
Lim survived some set darts in the fourth leg of the first set, and then managed a 16-darter and a 15-darter to win the set 3-2 in the all-Asian dual. The second set then went 3-0 to Lim. However, Leung came back to 2-2 in sets by winning six of the next seven legs. However, Leung could not keep the momentum.
Lim gained the lead in the decisive set by throwing a 16-darter. Leung missed a chance on the bullseye to equalise, after which Lim doubled the lead with a 15-darter. Leung closed to 1-2, after which Lim sealed the match with a 20-darter.
Former WDF world champion
Neil Duff also secured a spot in the last 16 in Frimley Green. The 52-year-old Duff won 3-2 in sets over Reece Colley in a cracker.
Lim will face the winner of the duel between Gary Stone and Dennis Nilsson in the eighth finals on Thursday. Duff also has to wait and see who his opponent will be. The Northern Irishman will face the winner of the Barry Copeland-Aaron Turner encounter.
