WDF drastically cuts prize money for 2022 World Masters, lowest amount for winner since 1989

The WDF World Masters will take place in Assen between Thursday 8 December - Sunday 11 December. The prize money has been announced, although this has been cut drastically from previous editions.

From 1974 to 2019, the World Masters was organized by the BDO. From this edition, the organization is with the WDF. This has had a significant impact on the prize pool. In 2019 this amounted to more than 70,000 pounds (81,000 euros). Now a total of more than 36,000 euros in prize money will be awarded.

The winner of the men's tournament receives a check for 6000 euros, the lowest amount since 1989. The winner of the ladies receives 3000 euros. The winners of the boys' tournament (500 euros) and girls' tournament (250 euros) have to make do with several hundred euros.

With hundreds of possible participants in the men's and women's categories, the chance that players and players will still earn something from their participation in this WDF major seems very small. Since players incur hotel, travel and other costs, it is likely that they must reach at least the semi-finals to make a profit from participating in the World Masters.
