Kevin Painter sealed a confident 3-0 win over Ronnie Baxter as the
World Seniors Darts Championship began on Thursday and will hope to go better than his run to the semi-finals twelve months ago.
"It's always nice to win, I didn't know what to expect from Ronnie (Baxter) so no-one was saying how well he was playing or what he'd been up to. We haven't seen much of him but it's always nice to get the win," said Painter to Online Darts.
"I'm pretty confident anyway. My preparation has been pretty good, if it goes wrong it isn't because I've failed to prepare. You cannot legislate for what happens to you on the stage when someone hits you with this that and the other. But my preparation has been good so I'm very confident."
In terms of his thoughts on the World Seniors a year in, he gave credit to the organizers for getting it started to begin with.
"I think it's fantastic. Jason Thame and Jason Francis have done a fantastic job, it wasn't easy to get it off the ground. We know some of the names that had to be in it to get it off the ground. There's no argument about that."
