The Champ Speaks 🗣️ John Henderson reflects on his 2nd WSDT major title on stage with Phill Barrs
Whilst John Henderson is now a two time winner on the World Seniors Darts Tour, he still holds aim of returning back to the PDC and so won't set his sights on claiming every title at once over the next year.
This is despite winning the World Seniors Darts Matchplay over the weekend which saw the Highlander see off Leonard Gates and a stern final fightback at that to win through. He spoke afterwards on stage and said that it gives him a lot of confidence especially after in his view poor displays on ProTour call-ups of late.
"My form coming into this was not in a good place. I wasn't playing well, I've been to Players Championships and the results weren't there. So to come here in a field as strong as it is to win this means everything to me, so I will take a lot from it," said Henderson.
"Doubles have been my achilles this year. But I started off strong and I got 4-1 up in the first break against Leonard (Gates) and I knew I was going to get some sort of a fightback. But I fought hard and I'm glad just to get over the line."
"The pressure is unbelievable. I felt my handshaking. If that double 18 didn't go in, this was going the distance. I'm so glad to get over the line."
But he isn't backwards of coming forwards about his ultimate aim as he has been throughout his time playing World Seniors Darts of it ultimately being a stock gap for further ambitions.
"Don't get me wrong winning these Seniors is brilliant and we all want to go on the Main Tour. That's my main aim. I'm glad I've been it, I'm glad to be the World Champion and World Matchplay champion."
