Lisa Ashton continues to impress at the
World Seniors Darts Championship. 'The Lancashire Rose' defeated former BDO world champion Scott Mitchell 3-0 and will now take on Chris Mason in the quarter-finals.
"To come here and play like I am, I'm so happy. Can't stop smiling," reflected a beaming Ashton in her post-match interview. "I'm so relieved to still be doing what I'm doing (after injury concerns ed.), so I can't believe it. I've struggled recently but now hopefully I can start hitting the heights again."
As mentioned, Ashton will meet Chris Mason in the quarterfinals, after 'Mace the Ace' was too strong for Phil Taylor's conqueror, Manfred Bilderl in the second round, 3-1. "There's no pressure, but I've not come here for nothing," Ashton says, clearly quietly confident about adding a 4th world title. " going to take every game as it comes and hopefully, I can keep going."
The 53-year-old Englishwoman is already casting half an eye beyond this World Championship too, for this summer's Women's WorldMatchplay. "It's on my home turf. I've played there two times before but I put too much pressure on myself," she recalls. "Beau Greaves is obviously the favourite and is hitting everything. We have to raise our game to hit Beau's level."
