Wayne Warren had his BDO World Championship trophy taken away by police during the Coronavirus lockdown but a GoFundMe page was set up to create a replica version of the trophy by Wayne Dobinson of Shownights.
This was given to Warren in recent weeks and he has now coined it 'The People's Cup' with the final BDO World Champion full of praise for the trophy and showing his desire to defend it.
"It's great to have a cup back in my hands. For what the people have done, the generosity of people is unbelievable and for what we've been through really with the police. I was devastated, I didn't want to do nothing, it was pathetic if you ask me," said Warren to Tungsten Tales.
"If you see this cup, it's identical to every detail. Absolutely every detail, it's unbelievable. On the other cup, you couldn't see half the names.
"You could see to 2000 and that's it. It's brand new, it's brilliant. It's going to go back then to WDF or MAD Darts, it's going to stay in the amateur game and it's going to be called the People's Cup."
"I would love to try to defend it. There's light at the end of the tunnel especially on the amateur side. The exhibitions are opening up. I just can't wait to get back on the road and take the cup with me."
Thoughts about retirement during trophy debacle
Warren also admitted he came close to retiring after the trophy debacle admitting his confidence took a dent but that this has now saw it re-emerge.
"It gives me more pride of being the World Champion, it's a cracker. When they come and took the trophy away and the way they done it, I felt so down. I thought to myself is it worth it, it hit my confidence. I thought about packing it all in.
"It's like a new me since I've had this new cup. It's something that I want to take with me and prove a point that there's life in Wayne Warren yet."
