Connor Scutt delivered a very special performance on Thursday. He managed to throw four 180-scores in one leg. Normally it is not possible to throw four 180s because traditional legs start on 501. However, Scutt competed in the British pentathlon and one leg was also started on 1001.
The 28-year-old needed some time to get going, as he started the leg with scores of 71 and 100, but then Scutt threw four 180s in a row. Finally, Scutt ended the leg with a 110 finish, allowing him to throw 1001 points in just 21 arrows. That amounts to a leg average of 143.00.
What is the British pentathlon?
The British pentathlon is a unique tournament, which used to be organized by the British Darts Organization (BDO) and is now organized by the England Darts Organization (EDO) in cooperation with the World Darts Federation (WDF).
The event consists of five parts. First, a player plays two legs from 501 against the other participants. Points can be gained for high-scores, for completing the leg within a certain number of darts and for winning the leg.
A player then plays a leg from 1001 and 2001. Points are awarded for high-scores and there are bonus points for completing the leg within a set number of darts. The third component is called "Shanghai. The player throws three darts each time to planes 1 through 9 (so a total of 27 darts). One point is awarded for hitting a single, two points for a double and three points for a triple. Bonus points are given when a player has hit the single, double and triple of a specific segment in one turn.
'Half it' is the name of the fourth section. This involves hitting certain planes on the dartboard with one of your three darts. If you miss a square, your score is halved. One point is awarded for hitting a single, two points for a double, three points for a triple and two points for hitting the bullseye.
The final section is called "Round the board on doubles. Players have 42 darts to hit each double on the board, starting with double 1, increasing to double 20. Two points are awarded for each double hit. Bonus points are awarded when a player hits the 20 doubles within 42 darts.
