Raymond van Barneveld watched the advance of Rob Cross with increasing astonishment. The 50-year-old Dutchman saw the World Championship debutant on New Year's Day grab the world title by defeating Phil Taylor in the final 7-2.

''It is certainly a new era'', Van Barneveld said during his analysis of the match between Cross and Taylor on RTL 7. ''A lot of people will wonder if he will be a one hit wonder, but that is not going to happen because he is much too constant for that.''
''Do I worry? I always worry, said the five-time world champion with a smile. "Because yes, Taylor is going, Cross is coming. What can you say. You will not get better...''
''It is, of course, perfect for darts. I am not often stunned, but what I have experienced with this young man these 14 days is really what it is all about. He is so constant and so good. I was a bit scared at first, because how is he going to keep himself in that final. Everyone is busy with Taylor, but I did not notice it at all. Just do his job and be done.''
