Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton, last years finalists at the Players Championship Finals, have reached the quarter-finals of this years event in Minehead.

Burton won two of the first four legs against Van Gerwen, but was not able to keep pace with the two-time world champion. The world number one rushed into a 6-2 lead, before the Ipswich ace won another two legs and reduced the deficit to 7-4.
However, Van Gerwen found the accelerator again and came with 11- and 12-dart legs to move one leg away from victory. 'Mighty Mike' then secured the victory with an 83 checkout.
Clayton also booked a convincing victory as he defeated Ricky Evans 10-5. The Welshman averaged 90 with only 24 percent on the doubles.
