After surgery and indifferent form, O'Shea failed to reach the BDO World Championships. It was the first time the three-time finalist had missed Lakeside since 2001. With playing not an option, Silverback turned his hand to commentary. But a return to the oche beckons.
"It's a tough job, and I don't have the attention span to do it all the time!" O'Shea joked about punditry. Rather than being disappointed about missing the World Championship, the Stockport ace sees the bright side.
He said: "It opens up a few opportunities for me. I'm giving Q-School a crack, because I can.
"If, unfortunately, it doesn't work out, I can always drop back into the BDO...it's the perfect storm, really."
O'Shea hopes to use his Q-School attendance to guarantee appearances at UK Open qualifiers. Though recent comments by Barry Hearn may have put his plans into doubt.
