Alexander Merkx became the second weekly winner in the new season of the MODUS Super Series on Saturday night in Portsmouth.
The best six players from the first five days of play met Saturday divided into two groups during the final day of this week of play.
Jarred Cole won Group A thanks to victories over Sam Cankett (4-0) and Neil Duff (4-2). Duff was allowed to advance to the semifinals as number two due to his 4-2 victory over Cankett.
In the other pool, Robert Rickwood managed to win both of his duels after victories over Merkx (4-2) and Graham Hall (4-1). Merkx finished second by winning the match against Hall.
In the first semifinal, Merkx was 4-1 too strong for Cole, while Rickwood sidelined his opponent Duff 4-2. The final was then a 4-2 triumph for Merkx, who thus took revenge for his defeat against Rickwood in the group stage.
Format
Each week from Monday to Friday, twelve players compete in multiple groups. The six best players advance to the final night on Saturday.
In the thirteenth week of play, the twelve weekly winners will compete to determine who becomes the MODUS Super Series champion and takes home the top prize of 20,000 pounds.
