Gary Anderson and
Gerwyn Price continue their march through the PDC
World Darts Championship on Monday evening.
We start with Anderson, who looked comfortable enough while putting Madars Razma out of contention. The two-time world champion now faces a repeat of that epic 2018 World Matchplay final, as he takes on
Mensur Suljovic.
It hasn't been the Gentle's year, by any means. But the PDC World Darts Championship brings new opportunities, and his scoring looked like at least close to his best stuff while holding off Matthew Edgar. Anderson's the favourite, though we don't know exactly how comfortable he'll feel on the oche.
Does Gerwyn Price, for someone who displays so much braggadocio on stage, have a confidence problem at the Alexandra Palace? It's hard to point at many games, bar obliterations of John Henderson and
Glen Durrant last year, where the Iceman looked completely cool. He was once again jittery, and ultimately lucky, against Jamie Lewis.
Brendan Dolan is the sort of player who can punish lengthy lapses, and after ending the Edward Foulkes fairytale, he's out to dispel the 'MVG vs Price final' narrative. If Price sets off on that explosive scoring from the outset, however, Dolan might have a tough time of it.
This final tie of the session is pure, undiluted PDC World Darts Championship fare. You've got the former amateur champion, a new leading light in the PDC. There's a brash, exciting international qualifier with a point to prove and nothing to lose. Glen Durrant versus
Danny Baggish looks set to be a cracker.
And there's no way of knowing how it'll go. Durrant's game against Diogo Portela didn't suggest he'd recaptured his best form after a long, enforced break, but more time has passed since then. And can Baggish recover from draining wins over Damon Heta and Adrian Lewis to topple another big name?
Don't expect massive averages, but do expect the height of Ally Pally drama.
