Anderson’s manager on rescheduled World Championship opener: “He can’t go out so he’s practising all week”

Gary Anderson’s World Championship opener has been rescheduled after a contact returned a positive Coronavirus test.

Anderson’s manager Tommy Gilmour said it was his decision to move it so that ‘The Flying Scotsman’ can be as ready as possible after his isolation is complete.

He said he’s even been practising and praised the PDC for their help.

“We’re looking at it in a very positive sense, it means he can’t go out the house so he’s practising all week,” said Gilmour to Darts World.

“It was my decision to do it. I wanted to give him an extra few days after his quarantine ended. Everybody at the PDC has been so helpful and the players. It could happen to anybody.

“We never know Gary might need to move for someone else in the World Championship at a later stage.

“It’s nice that the players all realise the seriousness. It’s not that anybody is doing anything wrong, it’s a precautionary measure which we all have to do right now.

“I’m glad in some ways because when I spoke to him yesterday he’d been practising. The boredom must have sunk in.

“He was really concerned because this is the big one, he has been looking forward to it.”
