Andy Baetens,
Dimitri van den Bergh and
Erik Clarys were put in the spotlight Thursday night at the
Belgian Darts Gala in Hasselt. Three prizes were handed out to Belgian darters during the prestigious exhibition.
Baetens received the award for best emerging Belgian talent, trumping Mike de Decker, Jeroen Caron and Arne Degryse. Baetens is currently number one on the WDF rankings after winning several open WDF tournaments. He also reached the last sixteen of the Belgian Darts Open, one of the PDC Euro Tour tournaments.
Van den Bergh was lauded for best performance of the year. 'The Dreammaker' became the first Belgian dart player ever to reach the semi-finals of the World Darts Championships earlier this year.
Finally, the so-called Lifetime Achievement Award, was also presented. This went to Erik Clarys, winner of the World Masters in 1995. 'The Sheriff' played a total of eight World Championships and is currently active as a darts commentator for the Belgian channel VTM.
