Aspinall praises Van Gerwen after World Grand Prix final loss: "He's back to his best, he's been phenomenal all week"

Nathan Aspinall lost out in the final of the World Grand Prix on Sunday evening in Leicester with a 5-3 defeat to Michael van Gerwen in the final.

Aspinall quickly fell behind 4-0 but never gave in and dug deep and despite admitting MVG was the better player, he is proud with his efforts.

"This week, Michael has been amazing - he's back to his best and he's been the deserved winner of this tournament," he said on Sky Sports.

"When I was 4-0 down I just wanted to win a set and give him a bit of a game, and I did that. I wanted to make him win it, and he did.

"He's been phenomenal all week but I never gave in. It's another final and I'm very happy."
