Clayton was class against Bunting producing his trademark finger point and doubling excellence. He showed that again here with 50% on the outer ring compared to only 16% from Smith which is where Bully Boy went wrong. After a while chasing results, a real chance is there for the Welshman especially with his next opponent.
Niels Zonneveld defeated Ricardo Pietreczko 6-5 in the third round to reach the last eight of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time in his career.
Zonneveld took a 3-0 lead early in the match by hitting 81 and 78. With a 13-darter and a 104 finish the Dutchman then extended his lead to 5-2. Zonneveld then missed three matchdarts to finish it off in the ninth leg, allowing Pietreczko to come back to 5-4 with a 72 finish. A 14-darter from the German then levelled the score. However, Zonneveld was allowed to start the last leg and he used this advantage with a 13-darter.
Later this afternoon, three more Dutchmen can qualify for the quarterfinals at the Czech Darts Open. There will be another Dutchman anyway, as Raymond van Barneveld and Jermaine Wattimena play each other in the third round. Michael van Gerwen meets Alan Soutar and Gian van Veen faces world champion Luke Humphries.
