De Sousa claims back-to-back Players Championship titles with decider win over Searle at PDC Super Series 4

Jose de Sousa has claimed back-to-back Players Championship titles joining an elite group of players in doing so on Day Three of PDC Super Series 4.

De Sousa downed Ryan Searle 8-7 in the final but had to work hard coming from 7-5 up to do so pinning a 102 checkout to complete the feat as he makes it three titles for the year.

To start the tie, Searle missed the bull two legs running but tied it up as De Sousa was missing darts at double.

He left 87 on the De Sousa throw but missed the big number which allowed 'The Special One' back for a 58 checkout on double 10 to lead 2-1.

Searle left himself on 50 and returned as De Sousa spurned a shot at 81 and 'Heavy Metal' returned for double 20 for 2-2.

De Sousa broke the record for 180's for the day with 33 and pinned double 10 after Searle had chances to break and go 3-2 up.

Searle once again missed the wire of the bull off 67 but he returned with De Sousa not getting a chance at 110 and double four was pinned to restore parity at 3-3.

A 180 was pinned by Searle once more and both were left on double six and 'Heavy Metal' fluffed his lines and De Sousa returned for the same target at 4-3 up.

De Sousa had a shot at 111 after Searle strayed into a single five on 84 but missed double 20 and we continued on throw at 4-4.

Searle finally looked to get away with a blockbuster 161 for 5-4 and a break. He consolidated this break of throw missing two shots at 83 but he returned for double four to go 6-4 up.

Searle missed double 20 for a 114 checkout and a hold but wasn't punished by De Sousa who missed the same target for 108 and the former returned for double 10 and a 7-5 lead.

A 174, 133 and 135 saw De Sousa look to kick into gear as he went bull, treble 15, double 20 for a 12-darter and a 7-6 deficit.

De Sousa missed double 10 for a 128 checkout and Searle missed bull again for an 88 checkout for the win. 'The Special One' took it all the way as a result.

He had the throw and a trebleless visit mid-way through the leg handed De Sousa the impetus. A 140 brought Searle down to a 101 but De Sousa hit a 102 checkout for the title.
