Jose de Sousa has now climbed into the top ten in the PDC Order of Merit but it has been a long road for the new star of PDC darts.
De Sousa discussed his route during the latest episode of the Autocomplete Challenge with the PDC.
"I play since 1994. It's about 26 years. I start with a couple of friends, we go to disco, party, fishing and a couple of things we do together and they said why don't you come Friday with us. There's a board over there, soft-tip and I say what is that," said De Sousa to PDC.
"The numbers I don't catch the numbers but the bullseye always since the first dart. After that, some tournaments, some people invite me and I become better and better and the darts goes with me since that day all over the world."
Exhibition win over Bristow
He also told the story of playing Eric Bristow who was over in his home of Spain at the time and suddenly winning.
"In 1998 in Spain. I win. It was an exhibition. In that moment, I was finished my tournament. I was in the hotel and the guy from Portugal they call me, you have to come to the venue. I go over there, there's soft-tip machine, a lot of cameras, a lot of people. So we start to play, he make a break, I make a break, 3-2 to me."
Miscounting
De Sousa is known for his poor math and he explained it's nothing to do with the numbers, more a concentration issue.
"My problem is not the numbers, it's my head sometimes. Sometimes I see a number and I think another number. I lost my concentration because I am so inside the game I forget some things."
