Edgar reveals toughest mental challenge of darts career: "It was one of the loneliest drives I've ever had"

A lot of darts players have many peaks and troughs in their careers and for Matthew Edgar, his latest video saw him explore that in terms of his toughest mental challenge in his career.

Discussing multiple instances when he came so close to a landmark moment, Edgar spoke about the thought process around these.

"What happens is anyone you ask of this will have their own individual story that we have gone through our individual personal battles or demons. My tale starts back in 2014 when I played in the Grand Slam of Darts qualifiers, back then it was a wildcard system where 256 came and took part, it wasn't just the Tour Card holders. I got through to the final on that day, it was all or nothing. There's no runners-up prizes, there are no guarantee," said Edgar.

"I got through to the final game and I played Jamie Caven and in this game, it wasn't that I played badly, it's that he played really well. I lost 4-0, coming home with nothing."

"Driving home from Wigan, all the way home in rush hour traffic because that was the time of the day we finished doing so was one of the loneliest drives I've ever had, it sucked."

"It got worse, a few weeks later we played the World Championship qualifiers. This was for the 2015 World Championship. I played really well all day, ended up losing in the final game of this to Jason Hogg."

"I lost a very close game, the thing about losing this game I had a little bit of a comfort. That was that you got a £1,000. It was £1,000 in cash to me, when you think of what I missed out on. That would have been huge."
