Ted Evetts had a poor start to 2020 before the Coronavirus lockdown began and as part of his chat with the Weekly Dartscast, he spoke about how the pandemic played a huge factor in his darting career.
"It took a backseat to be honest, I started 2020 really poor and even going to the Development Tour, I was struggling to make it off of my board and I was losing first and second round thinking this isn't me so in a way the break came at a nice point," he said to the Weekly Dartscast.
"When we realised actually we're in lockdown for another three months, I thought if I was going to have a break and kick start this fitness thing I've been trying to do for probably about four or five years it was then. I played the Home Tour, was like I'll practice for that and do a week of throwing before. But between them, I must have had a two month period where I didn't pick a dart up."
"I was just out on my bike, started to do a bit of running and I've carried it on now and feel a lot better for it."
Effect of Fallon game on form
A topic which Evetts has touched upon before is the torrent of abuse suffered after the Fallon Sherrock defeat and that mixed with him adapting to weight loss meant his form took a while to click back into gear.
"At the start of the year, I was getting thousands of messages. Don't get me wrong, not all bad but every other day I was getting a message that realistically didn't need to be sent by the person sending the message. Just people looking for a bite. Even up to March this year I was still getting messages about the game. That's not great for the mental side of the sport."
"With the running and losing weight, it was adapting to almost a new me because I didn't practice the whole way through losing the weight and four stone later, I'm back on the tour. It was almost like learning to throw again."
