Thanks to Scott Williams' very surprising victory over Michael van Gerwen, there are four Englishmen in the semifinals of the
World Darts Championship in London on Tuesday night.
And that's a long time ago, writes darts commentator Dan Dawson on X. It happened during the 2006 edition for the last time that the final four of the World Darts Championship consisted entirely of Englishmen.
At the time, the World Championship was still being played at Circus Tavern in Purfleet before the tournament was moved to Alexandra Palace two years later. At the time, Phil Taylor, Wayne Mardle, Peter Manley and Wayne Jones made it to the semifinals. This year, in addition to Williams, Luke Humphries, Luke Littler and Rob Cross are among the last four.
