Gary Anderson appears to have started the season reborn. The Scot took a big dip in the world rankings after the World Darts Championship, but has started the year particularly strongly.
For instance, 'The Flying Scotsman' has already been in two ranking finals, one of which he managed to win. The statistics endorse Anderson's good form.
The two-time world champion currently has the highest annual average (98.74) of all Tour Card holders. Higher than, for example, Premier League stars like Gerwyn Price (98.50) and Michael van Gerwen (97.65), who do have a few more matches under their belts.
Anderson also has the highest scoring average of all. This is also called first-9 average. This looks at the scores in the first three innings of each leg. For Anderson, this comes out at 108.97. So on average, Anderson scores a total of almost 327 points in his first three visits.
Also, Anderson is the most accurate at aiming for the triple 20 in 2023. No less than 44.56 per cent of all darts Anderson throws at the triple 20 actually end up in the right box. For the triple 19, it is even 46.83 per cent. No player does that better than 'The Flying Scotsman'.
How come Anderson has started this year so well? The Scot has made no secret of the fact that he has been practicing a lot with fellow darter Ryan Searle in recent weeks. Moreover, he has also made an equipment adjustment. He is again throwing his old familiar Phase 3 Noir darts from Unicorn, which have recently been fitted with longer black points, though. These, according to Unicorn, provide an improved grip and fewer bounce-outs.
