Nathan Aspinall has successfully made it into the third round of the
German Darts Open. 'The Aspi' defeated
Gian van Veen 6-3 in the second round.
However, it was Van Veen who took off like a rocket and quickly charged into a 3-0 lead. "I felt for Gian there. Everyone knows I've had a busy month, I've not really played darts and it's been a bit at the back of my mind," said Aspinall in his post-match interview on stage immediately following the encounter.
"When I saw the draw, Whitlock or Van Veen I'm thinking 'Oh my god.' Van Veen is absolutely class and I did not want to play that lad tonight. He's got an amazing future but I think the pressure maybe got to him tonight. For myself, I'm just really happy to get through. "
Aspinall will take on Brian Raman in the next round. "It's a game under my belt and an important win. I'm definitely looking forward to getting back on that stage again."
