Peter Wright has qualified for the last sixteen of the Belgian Darts Open. 'Snakebite' was too strong for Michael van Gerwen in the second round 6-4.
Both Wright and Van Gerwen remained well below their normal levels. “Obviously Michael has still got a shoulder injury and didn’t do much practice in the backroom. I was feeling sorry for him. I thought I’ve got a chance and I nearly threw it away," Wright reflected honestly in his post-match interview. "Normally you have to produce a ton-plus average to beat Michael, but I know he’s struggling with his shoulder injury."
"I knew beforehand that I definitely had a chance against Michael," continued the 54-year-old Scot. "Hopefully he gets better soon and starts playing the darts we know he can, and hopefully I do the same!”
